Weeny Free Password Recovery

This free WeenySoft’s “password recovery” utility does not provide such a broad functionality as its generic name might lead you to think.

It does not recover any password you may have forgotten. Actually, it does not recover passwords, full stop. At least, not in the sense that you would expect from a “password recovery” tool (i.e., I have forgotten the password I used to access this site or document and I need some tool to remind me). Weeny Free Password Recovery can only show you what is behind those passwords that are usually shown as asterisks, and only in a specific group of applications – namely, those developed by Microsoft, together with some e-mail and FTP clients.

This does not mean that this small utility is absolutely pointless. Not at all. It will effectively remind you of a given password as long as it meets certain conditions. Password-protected documents need to be Microsoft-made. It works fantastically with any MS Office tool or document, as well as with any Microsoft e-mail client. However, other Windows-based FTP clients – such as CuteFTP or FlashFXP – are also supported. Another condition is that the password is shown in the screen in the shape of a string of asterisks. If the password box is empty, this free tool will do nothing.

The way the program works is simple and intuitive – all you have to do is drag the pointer provided to where the asterisk password is shown. The actual password will then appear in the corresponding box in the program’s interface. It works like a charm, though only in very limited contexts.
